Marianon Tower

The “Tower of Marianon” or “Tower of Olynthos” survives today two kilometers north of Olynthos and rises to 12 of the approximately 15 meters of the original construction. It was built at the end of the 14th century and was the property of the Docheiariou Monastery of Mount Athos, protecting and supervising the area. In addition to its operation as a defensive tower, it was also a residence of the workers on the estate and was a three-story, with several surviving sections, and it's easily accessible.

The tower, which took its name from the area ("Amariana", "Mariana") that was used as a holiday home by Anna Palaiologina Kantakouzene who sold it, in 1373, in Dochaeiariou Monastery, and was built with materials from the nearby archeological site, Olynthos, with stones from the adjacent quarry and tiles, a typical example of Byzantine masonry, with which symbols and designs are formed.
