The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Kontariotissa is the oldest Byzantine monument in Pieria. The style of construction places the building of the church around the 7th century, with structural changes in the 11th and renovation in the 15th century.
It has a rare type of architecture, a transitional type with dome and vestibule and simple, but excellent decoration, which is preserved in the dome and above the triple opening. The Temple is built with materials from the area of Dion. It celebrates and operates every August 15th.
