Naoussa - Apokria (Carnival) 2026
Thursday 12 February 2026 - Monday 23 February 2026
One City, One Ritual – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience!
The Municipality of the Heroic City of Naoussa organizes the “Naoussa Carnival 2026” events throughout the month of February.
Naoussa’s Carnival is centered on the unique traditional ritual “Janissaries and Boules”, which sets it apart from typical carnival celebrations in other cities. This ritual takes place exclusively during Carnival in Naoussa and highlights the living tradition, culture, and identity of the local community, preserved and passed down with deep respect for custom and authenticity.
At the same time, the Clean Monday tradition “Koulouma” stands as a major cultural, touristic, and social event. Local professionals, cultural associations, and community organizations actively contribute to promoting tourism and safeguarding folk traditions, showcasing the social life, customs, and values of the people of Naoussa.
This year’s Carnival festivities begin on Sunday, February 1st, marking the opening of the Triodion, with a satirical theatrical performance by the “Friends of the Carnival” and traditional street serenades by folklore groups across the city.
Within the Carnival framework, the Municipality of Naoussa presents a dynamic program of cultural activities and live music events. The celebrations kick off energetically on Tsiknopempti (Thursday, February 12th) with PASSEPARTOUT — an explosive live act that goes beyond a concert and becomes a full street-party experience, filling the city with rhythm, energy, and Carnival spirit.
The festivities continue on Sunday, February 15th with a large traditional open-air celebration featuring cultural and folklore associations of the Municipality, together with the orchestra of Vangelis Psathas, bringing melodies, dance, and musical traditions from across Greece.
The Carnival experience reaches its peak on Sunday, February 22nd with MACHO BAND, a live performance blending traditional sounds with modern stage energy in a massive open-air event for all ages.
At the same time, a rich program of creative activities and children’s Carnival events will fill the city with smiles, colors, and joyful energy, offering unforgettable experiences of fun, participation, and imagination for children and families.
Once again this year, the city celebrates with street serenades, dancing, costumes, and Naoussa’s famous Xinomavro wine, creating the distinctive atmosphere that makes Naoussa’s Carnival truly unforgettable.
