On November 5, 2023, the 11th Paiko Half Marathon and the 4th 5-kilometer race named "Paiko Chestnut Forest" will take place in Paiko, Kilkis Prefecture. The race, which was initiated to showcase the natural wealth of the region and protect it from destructive mining plans, is now in its 11th edition and continues to focus on nature conservation. We dream of Paiko becoming a hub for athletes, hikers, cyclists, and thematic visitors, who will enjoy the oxygen, trails, small villages, and monasteries, instead of being a "dead" mountain where its streams end up in hydroelectric plants and its slopes are covered with wind turbines. The event is twinned with the race "XESKOURIA...LIVE" organized in Kakkavo, and once again, we express our support for the residents who persist in resisting, paying the heavy price of choosing to fight for the salvation of their land. We applaud all efforts to highlight and protect the natural wealth of our country through similar events, and we hope that organizers and athletes together will keep our mountains alive!
