Building of the Society for Macedonian Studies
The best view of the White Tower
The imposing building of the Society for Macedonian Studies across the White Tower is a landmark in the center of Thessaloniki, completing the architectural feast of the emblematic point. It was inaugurated in 1962 and since then it is the seat of the State Theater of Northern Greece.
It is based on a design by architect Vassilios Kassandras and includes a 668-seat theater, cinema, and gallery. The building hosts performances, film screenings, cultural events, speeches, album presentations, and conferences. Renovated by the Organization of European Capital of Culture - Thessaloniki in 1997, it is accessible to the disabled and hosts a cultural hive based on the State Theater.
