The sculpture dedicated to Grigoris Lambrakis, created by Vasilis Doropoulos, is a significant monument commemorating the political assassination of the pacifist politician, physician, and marathon runner.
Titled "Marathon Runner of Peace," the sculpture features a human-like figure in a posture of supplication, holding a dove of peace. Its artistic representation incorporates elements of socialist realism, making a powerful visual statement about the importance of peace.
Installed in 1998, the monument was funded by the businessman Fokas and serves as a reminder not only of Lambrakis' tragic assassination but also of the challenging post-civil war period Greece experienced.
