“Christos Kakalos” Refuge

The "Christos Kakalos" Refuge on Mount Olympus is built on the southeastern tip of the Muses Plateau, at a height of 2,650 meters. It is the second-highest refuge in Greece, after the Refuge "Giosos Apostolidis" which is located at 2,697 meters. It is a small building, which can accommodate up to 17 people.

It is named after the first Greek who conquered, together with two other Swiss climbers, the peak "Mytikas", in 1913. It operates from late May to late October, and in winter depending on weather conditions (early March till April). Since 2003 it has also operated as a climbing and mountaineering ski center.
