Panagia Dexia Neighborhood in Veria

An Authentic Atmosphere in a Traditional Historical Quarter of the City

This preserved neighborhood of Veria stretches along the Tripotamos River, located right next to the city’s central market.

Unlike other traditional quarters of Veria, which are often rich in religious monuments, this area contains only a few churches. Among them are the parish church of Panagia Dexia, as well as the churches of Saint Nicholas and Saint Paraskevi.

The Church of Panagia Dexia was built in the early 19th century on the site of an older 14th-century church. From the original structure, only parts of the sanctuary’s apse and the eastern façade have survived, which still feature notable frescoes.
