Megalia Livadia

One of the most authentic traditional villages of Paiko

Megala Livadia, also known simply as Livadia, is a traditional village on Mount Paiko, in Kilkis prefecture, at an altitude of about 1,200 metres. This village is known for its special history and its beautiful natural location.

Megala Livadia was founded in the 18th century by Vlach farmers, who settled in the area because of its rich pastures. The Vlachs inhabitants of the village have preserved their language, customs and traditions, which are still evident in the village's culture. Its rich history is also linked to the 1821 Revolution, as its inhabitants actively participated in the struggle for the independence of Greece.

The village is located in an idyllic landscape, surrounded by beech forests and lush vegetation. The mountainous environment and the clean atmosphere make Megala Livadia an ideal destination for those who love nature and activities such as hiking and mountaineering.

The houses in the village retain the traditional Macedonian architecture, with stone buildings and wooden roofs. The village retains its authentic character, despite the decline in population in recent decades.

Every summer, cultural events including traditional music and dances are held in Megala Livadia, attracting visitors from different regions.
