Military Museum of Fort Rupel
Military Museum of Fort Rupel
The memory of the most historic fortress of World War II
Between Mount Belles and Aggistro, near the Greek-Bulgarian border, Fort Rupel was the largest of the 21 forts of the Greek resistance line during the battles of World War II.
The well-maintained, visitable site houses a museum, which exhibits uniforms, medals, weapons, banners of the Greek and German armies, and personal items of the soldiers and the commander of the fort. A special exhibit is one of the two anti-tank guns owned by the guard of Rupel in 1941.
Visitors have access to part of the main lodge, which includes the infirmary and service areas along its length. The museum is also located there, with a special room where audiovisual material on the Battle of the Forts is displayed. Also offered is a scale diorama of a sectional view of the Fort Rupel tunnels.
