One of the most beautiful caves in Europe
Fifty kilometers from Serres, in the place "Petroto", is the cave of Alistrati, which is an attraction for visitors from all over the world. It is considered one of the most beautiful and largest in Europe, with a known area of about 25,000 sq.m.
The cave has very high roofs, big stalactites, as well as a very rare small decoration of "eccentrics", a type of stalactites that point in different directions. The height of the largest loggia reaches about 35 meters, while at some point there is a very small chamber.
The total length of the known main and secondary corridors is about 3 km. The tour is one hour-long and the distance is about 1km. The cave is ventilated naturally and has a temperature of 17 C all year round.
