The history of Serres in a historical monument

The Archaeological Museum of Serres is housed since 1970 at the Ottoman monument of the restored closed market "Bezesteni", in the center of Serres. It exhibits archaeological finds of the greater area of ​​Serres, from prehistoric times (excavations of Promachonas and Kryoneri) to the Byzantine years.

The exhibits date back to ancient, classical, Hellenistic and Roman times, but also the early Christian and Byzantine years, with icons and mosaics, while the collection comes from finds in Argilos, Vergi, Terpni, Neos Skopos, Gazoros, the ancient Tragilos and the city of Serres. The Archaeological Museum is a popular destination both for the content of the collection and as an architectural monument of the 15th century.
