Cultural Route: In the Footsteps of Saint Paul

The history of Greece’s first Christian communities is closely tied to the route the Apostle Paul followed in the region. This great traveller of the 1st century AD completed four missionary journeys across the eastern Mediterranean. Reaching out to groups of people from different cultures, economic backgrounds and religions who were nevertheless all under Roman rule, he aimed to spread the Christian faith and instil belief in Jesus Christ. The project titled ‘Cultural Route: In the Footsteps of Saint Paul’ was conceived and carried out by the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Greek Ministry of Culture. It aspires to give us a better understanding of the Apostle Paul’s activities by experiencing them through a historically and archaeologically documented reconstruction of his journey through Greece. Through this project, the modern-day visitor is invited to join Paul on this journey.
