In honor of the "Mother of the Soldier"
The statue of Kalliopi Lyta (or Lyka), known as "The Soldier's Mother", is located in the courtyard of the 3rd Army Corps in Thessaloniki, between the main building and the church. The statue realistically depicts Kalliopi Lyta walking slightly forward, wearing a military uniform, symbolizing her dedication to the soldiers and their struggle.
This bronze work was created in 2000 by the sculptors Vassilis Papa and Athanasios Alexiadis. Placed in this important military site, the statue commemorates the memory of Kalliopi Lyta, who served as a symbolic mother figure for many soldiers and is a symbol of solidarity and support for the army.
