Bust of Captain Barda

In honour of the hero of the Macedonian Struggle

The bust of Captain Vardas, one of the most important fighters of the Macedonian Struggle, is placed in a small green space next to the church of Panagia Chalkeon in Thessaloniki.

The bust, made in 1956 from white marble, depicts Captain Vardas wearing a hat and naval uniform, reflecting his military status and his contribution to the struggle for the liberation of Macedonia.

This work stands next to the bust of German Karavangelis, another important figure of the Macedonian Struggle, thus creating a place of memory and honour for the heroes who made a decisive contribution to Greek history. The location of the bust, near an important religious and historical site in the city, reinforces the connection between the memory of Captain Vardas and local and national tradition.
