The definition of a walk in nature
The Axios Delta National Park, one of the most important ecosystems in Greece, offers excellent opportunities for walking, observation, photography or just an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It is located on the west coast of Thermaikos Gulf and includes the Kalochori Lagoon, the mouth of the French River, the deltas of the rivers Axios and Aliakmonas, the wetland of Nea Agathoupolis, and the wetlands of Alyki Kitros.
The protected area, which is part of Europe's network of Natura 2000 ecological sites, covers 338 sq km and is rich in fauna, especially the approximately 300 species of birds that pass or nest in the ecosystem. The landscape changes in every season but also from day to day and the visitor will live different experiences each time. The walk in nature could not find a better application than wandering in the rich flora and fauna of the National Park, which is also located a few kilometers away from the center of Thessaloniki.
