Trigoniou Tower

The most beautiful view of the city from a unique monument

Trigoniou Tower is unquestionably the best spot to admire the view of Thessaloniki. This is why the location was chosen for the defensive fortification of the city, along with the construction of similar towers in the early years of the Ottoman period. The medieval Byzantine walls that protected the city were reinforced with towers like the one in Kastra, both in the coastal zone (White Tower) and in Vardaris.

Also known as the "Tower of Alysseos," " Zincirli Kule," or "Kousakli Kule," it was built in the 15th century, around the same period as the White Tower, and their architectural similarities are visible, with the particularity that the Trigoniou Tower is situated on sloping ground. It is cylindrical, with a height of about twenty meters, while its diameter reaches to twenty-five meters. Its masonry features a thick layer of stone, and its integration into the interior of an existing structure makes it one of the safest places in the city.

Trigoniou Tower is one of the most popular attractions in Thessaloniki, as it combines its historical aura as one of the most characteristic monuments with the unique view of the city, the Thermaic Gulf, and even Mount Olympus. It is an essential stop on the visitor's tour of the Byzantine walls, in an area filled with historic buildings and landmarks from various eras, with many food and drink establishments, and the most picturesque spot to admire, take photos and capture the city.
