Mustafa Bey Mosque
A preserved Ottoman monument of the early 16th century
Built in the early 16th century, the Mosque of Mustafa Bey is one of the several Ottoman monuments in the town of Serres. It is located in the western suburb, in the Kato Kamenikia area and it functioned as a district mosque, known in its time as the "Khanjar Jamion" or "Koca Mustafa Paşa".
It was built by the Vizier of the Sultan Koca Mustafa and had imarets, a seminary school, and domes covered with lead, according to testimonies of the time. Side apartments were added to the main building and its present form is the result of several architectural and building interventions.
The building has been declared a listed monument and is open to visitors. Ottoman baths are preserved in a short distance.
