Yeni Hammam-Aigli

An iconic and well-preserved Ottoman monument

The Yeni Hammam, also known as Aigli, is one of the most iconic and well-preserved bathhouses in Thessaloniki, dating back to the Ottoman period. Located in the heart of the city, between Agiou Dimitriou and Kassandrou streets, this historic site has served the local community and visitors since its construction in 1444.

Designed to provide bath and relaxation services, the Yeni Hammam is an excellent example of Ottoman architecture, featuring distinctive elements such as domed ceilings, marble fountains, and specially designed spaces for visitors. The architecture of the Yeni Hammam combines functionality with aesthetics, with light filtering in through small windows and openings, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation. The bathhouse is organized into three main areas: the antechamber, the hot bath, and the cold bath.

Today, the Yeni Hammam operates as a cultural and wellness center, offering traditional bathing services and various treatments. It is also a popular destination for visitors who wish to experience the history and culture of Thessaloniki, blending tradition with modern wellness practices.
