An Architectural Monument from the Early 20th Century
The Old School in Kassandra, Chalkidiki, is a noteworthy building dating back to 1927, constructed under the guidance of Metropolitan Irineos and designed by architect Xenofon Paionidis. It is officially recognized as a monument by the Ministry of Culture.
This stone-built structure is developed over three levels. Its rectangular plan features a slight projection of the main facade, accentuating the central entrance of the building. The facades are organized with rectangular openings aligned along vertical axes.
The arches above the windows and doors are constructed with carved voussoirs, while the window and door frames, as well as the cornerstones, are made from rectangular carved stones. The roof features a stone cornice and is covered with tiles. The building is surrounded by a spacious and comfortable courtyard and occupies a prominent position within the settlement.
