Hospital Agios Dimitrios
Hospital Agios Dimitrios
A Modern Medical Facility Housed in a Historic Neoclassical Building
Agios Dimitrios hospital in Thessaloniki, founded in 191, is housed in an architecturally significant neoclassical building. Designed by architect Dimitris Hatzis, the structure blends functionality with aesthetics, incorporating both traditional elements and contemporary architectural trends of the early 20th century.
Initially serving as a Military Hospital, it was later converted into a civilian facility. The building features symmetrical facades, large windows, and high ceilings, which contribute to a sense of spaciousness. The use of materials such as brick and granite enhances the stability and durability of the construction.
The exterior of the hospital is adorned with columns and other decorative details reminiscent of ancient Greek architecture. Over the years, the building has undergone renovations, yet its architectural lines remain faithful to the original design, preserving its neoclassical identity.
