Statue of Emmanouil Pappas

The statue of the leading fighter of Greek independence

The statue of Emmanouil Pappas, a prominent fighter for Greek independence, was erected in 1989 and depicts him in a dynamic stance, ready to board his ship. Wearing his traditional cloak, Pappas stands on a step, while behind him, the figure of Nike, symbolizing honor and glory, surrounds him with wings and crowns him with a laurel wreath.

The sculpture is mounted on a marble base and is located in a landscaped area in the park of the YMCA, in Xarchakou Square, allowing visitors to observe it from a distance. The overall composition is enhanced by concrete blocks at the back, adding depth and movement to the presentation.

The statue's placement is strategic, located at the intersection of 3rd September and Megalou Alexandrou Streets, opposite Thessaloniki City Hall. Created by artist Memos Makris, this work is a significant artistic and historical tribute to Emmanouil Pappas' contribution to Greece's liberation.
