Monument to Thracian Heroes

Dedicated to the heroes of the Greek Revolution of 1821 Chatziantonis and Domna Vizvizis

The Monument to the Thracian Heroes in Thessaloniki is a work by the sculptor Yannis Tsaras, dedicated to the heroes of the Greek Revolution of 1821 Chatziantonis and Domna Vizvizis, from Aino in Eastern Thrace. The monument is made of brass and placed on a marble base, giving a sense of power and timelessness.

The sculpture depicts a man, representing Hatziantonis Vizvizis, seated and holding a ship's cannon, a symbol of his naval power and his role at sea during the struggle. Next to him, the figure of Domna Vizvizis stands upright, raising her arms high and holding a torch, symbolizing light and the hope of freedom.

This work was donated by the Karaviotis family and is signed by the Thracian Center, an organization that promotes the historical memory and culture of Thrace.

The monument is located on the seaside street of Megalo Alexandrou, just before Macedonia Palace and after the famous "Umbrellas" of Zongolopoulos, offering an imposing and at the same time moving reminder of the struggles of the Thracian heroes.
