Impressive post-Byzantine church of 1834
The Church of Saint Paraskevi in Kolchiko is an impressive post-Byzantine church dating back to 1834. It follows the design of a three-aisled basilica with a wooden roof and is likely built on the site of an earlier church, highlighting the region's long religious history.
Inside the church, traces of fresco decoration can still be seen, with a notable depiction of the founder, Triantafyllos Chatzidimitriou, dressed in traditional attire, adorning the southern part of the church. The wooden iconostasis, with its floral decoration, is one of the most remarkable features of the church, along with the old pulpit and restored icons, works of the Koulaikiotis School dating back to the early 1800s.
The Church of Saint Paraskevi is not only a significant religious monument but also a cultural center that showcases the tradition and art of the region. It offers visitors the opportunity to admire its architecture and rich history.
