Statue of the Cretan Fighter

In memory of the Cretans who fought in the Macedonian Struggle

The statue of the Cretan Macedonian Fighter is a tribute to the Cretans who fought in the Macedonian Struggle.

It is located in Fanarioton Square, on Pavlou Mela Street, near the White Tower of Thessaloniki. It was unveiled in 2006 by the Pancretan Brotherhood of Macedonia and was sculpted by Georgios Kikotis. The bronze statue depicts a mature man with a moustache and beard, dressed in the uniform of the era, including the traditional Cretan breeches (vraka). He holds a pistol in one hand and a knife in the other, while a cloak is draped over his back.

The figure is larger than life and muscular, creating a strong visual impact. The statue symbolizes the heroism and self-sacrifice of the Cretans, who formed a significant part of the forces in the Struggle and developed a deep connection with Macedonia and its history.
