Georgakis Olympios Folklore Museum of Vlachs

The preservation and promotion of the folk culture of the Vlachs of Serres

The Folklore Museum of Vlachs of Serres "Georgakis Olympios" was created by the Vlachs Association of the same name, based in the town of Serres in 2008. Its purpose is to preserve and promote the folk culture of the Vlachs of the wider region of Serres and the three-storey building that houses it functions both as an exhibition and as a historical retrospective of the last centuries.

The exhibition is divided into seven sections: Birth, puberty of both sexes, Vlach bride's wedding dress, marriage, wedding costumes, and dinner. The visitor is taken on a journey through the customs of earlier times, household activities, festivals and milestones of Vlach life, through a large collection of representative samples and the impressive reconstruction of the formal room on the first floor.

In the basement, there is a classroom for teaching traditional dances and a rich library and wardrobe.
