Hellenic Pharmaceutical Museum
Dedicated to the History of Pharmaceutical Science and Practice
The Hellenic Pharmaceutical Museum in Thessaloniki was established in 2003 and is one of the few museums of its kind in Greece. It is housed in the building of the Thessaloniki Pharmaceutical Association, located at 173-175 National Resistance Street in Kalamaria, and is dedicated to the history of pharmaceutical science and practice.
The museum features a rich collection of pharmaceutical tools, books, and equipment used by pharmacists throughout the ages. Visitors can view antique pharmaceutical furniture, such as laboratory counters and cabinets with old bottles, as well as medical instruments used in the preparation of medicines.
Particularly notable are the exhibits related to the preparation of herbal medicines, as well as manuscripts and books explaining traditional therapeutic methods. The museum highlights the evolution of pharmaceutical science from antiquity to the 20th century, with a focus on traditional methods and the early developments of modern pharmacy.
The Hellenic Pharmaceutical Museum serves as a center for study and education, offering educational programs and guided tours for schools, students, and the general public. Through its exhibitions and preservation of historical objects, the museum contributes to maintaining pharmaceutical traditions and promoting scientific knowledge.
