Posidi Lighthouse
Posidi Lighthouse
The Monument in the Most Unique Spot of Kassandra since 1864
One of the most distinctive landmarks of Kassandra is the Posidi Lighthouse, located on the cape that changes shape according to the waves and winds. The sandy "tongue" that creates the popular beaches in the area is perhaps the strongest evidence of the morphological changes the region has undergone since the construction of the lighthouse in 1864. Back then, it was built very close to the water, but over the years, it has moved further away from the shoreline.
The lighthouse was erected by the French Lighthouse Company and stands at a height of 14.5 meters. Its two flashes every 15 seconds can be seen up to 24 nautical miles away, aiding navigation in the area from a unique vantage point. The structure itself is impressive, with colonial architecture and effective, while the colorful garden surrounding it further enhances its white, majestic appearance.
Every year, on the International Day of Lighthouses, the Posidi Lighthouse is open to the public. But daily, especially during sunset, it stands there for you to admire its grandeur in the light of the sun setting behind Mount Olympus.
