Sixth Grade Primary School in Nigrita
Sixth Grade Primary School in Nigrita
An important monument for the educational and cultural heritage of the region
The Sixth Primary School in Nigrita, Serres is a historic building of great importance for the local community. It was built between 1904 and 1910, on the initiative of the mayor Dimitris Apostolidis and with the participation of the residents, which shows the local community's zeal for education.
The school suffered significant damage during the Bulgarian fire in 1913, but was rebuilt in 1920 by order of the then Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos, becoming a symbol of the community's resilience and rebirth.
The building, however, was again badly damaged in the 1978 earthquake, which affected its architectural integrity. Despite the difficulties, the Sixth Grade Elementary School remains an important monument in the history of Nigrita, reflecting the educational and cultural heritage of the area.
