Karolos Allatini Orphanage

A Historic Building with a Significant Social Contribution

The Karolos Allatini Orphanage, also known as the "Center for Solidarity and Volunteering," is a historic building located in Thessaloniki. Established in 1920 by the prominent businessman and philanthropist Karolos Allatini, known for his social contributions, the orphanage was designed by the architect Jacques Mosche.

The building combines elements of Neoclassical and Byzantine architecture. Initially, it served as a refuge for orphans and children from vulnerable families, providing them with education and care.

Over the years, the orphanage has housed thousands of children, offering them a second chance in life. Due to social and economic changes, the institution reduced its operations and was transformed in 1995 into a social center that continues to provide support and protection services.

Today, the Karolos Allatini Orphanage building stands as a historic monument, reflecting social responsibility and contributions to the city of Thessaloniki. As a space of remembrance, it hosts cultural events and programs that promote solidarity and social justice.
