Statue Theodoros Kolokotronis
Dedicated to the important hero of the Greek Revolution
In the heart of Thessaloniki, facing Tsimiski Street, stands the statue of Theodoros Kolokotronis, an impressive figure that commemorates the hero's significant contribution to the Greek Revolution. The statue, three metres high, was donated by the Association of Peloponnesians of Thessaloniki to the Municipality of Thessaloniki and was erected in 1982.
The statue is made of bronze and depicts a classical representation of Kolokotronis holding his yatagani with determination. He wears traditional Greek costume, including the fustanella, shirt, vest and helmet, highlighting Greek tradition and his heroic figure.
The statue is located in a beautiful park across from YMCA, at the corner of Tsimiski and Angelaki. This area is known for the many busts and statues sculpted by the sculptor Efthymios Kaleiras, on the theme of the heroes of 1821. The area is ideal for walks and offers an opportunity for visitors to learn about the history and tradition of Greece.
