Bust of Philip Nikoglou
Bust of Philip Nikoglou
In honour of a relatively unknown hero of the liberation of Thessaloniki
The bust of Philip Nikoglou, a lesser known but important hero of Thessaloniki, is located in a small park next to the Folklore Museum, near Vasilissis Olga Street.
Nikoglou was a doctor and played a key role in the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912, providing valuable information to the Greek government and risking his life to prevent the city from being occupied by the Bulgarians.
The bust, made of bronze in 1966, depicts Nikoglou wearing a suit and looking stern. The work bears only the sculptor's name, without his surname, and the date of construction is inscribed on the back of the bust. The bust is located in a small park next to Vasilissis Olga.
