Ahmet Kapandji Mansion

A Historic and Beautiful Early 20th Century Building

The Ahmet Kapandji Mansion is located in Thessaloniki at 105 Vasilissis Olgas Street. Built in the early 20th century, it was designed by the Italian architect Pietro Arrigoni. The mansion belonged to Ahmet Kapandji, a local Thessalonian of the Donmeh community, and brother of Mehmet Kapandji, who had his own mansion nearby at 108 Vasilissis Olgas Avenue.

Following the Greco-Turkish War and the population exchange, most members of the Kapandji family left Greece and moved to Istanbul. However, Ahmet's son, Mehmet, stayed in Thessaloniki for over a decade. During the Occupation, the mansion was used by the Gestapo, and in 1939 it hosted a Nursing School of the Greek Red Cross. Later, it housed NATO offices.

The villa was renovated, and by the late 20th century, it hosted organizations such as the Thessaloniki Cultural Capital Organization and the Thessaloniki Regulatory Authority. Today, it stands as an important piece of the city’s cultural heritage.
