Bust of Admiral Votsis

The monument that honours the Greek naval hero of the Balkan Wars

The bust of Admiral Nikolaos Votsi is located next to the White Tower, one of the most emblematic monuments of Thessaloniki. This bust is dedicated to the Greek naval hero of the Balkan Wars, who became known for his legendary action during the First Balkan War.

Nikolaos Votsis (1877-1931) was a lieutenant of the Royal Greek Navy and became famous when, in 1912, he managed to sink the Turkish battleship "Fethi Bulent" in the port of Thessaloniki, using a small torpedo boat. This success played an important role in the liberation of the city from Ottoman rule.

The bust of Admiral Votsi is placed on a marble base near the White Tower, honoring his memory and his heroic contribution to the history of the city and Greece. This work is a tribute to Votsi's courage and dedication to his homeland, while reminding passers-by of the historical importance of Thessaloniki in the struggle for the independence of Greece.
