Bust of Vassilis Tsitsanis

Dedicated to the Great Folk Composer

The bust of Vassilis Tsitsanis, created by sculptor Theocharis Hatzivasiliadis, is located in the narrow streets of Ano Poli, at the end of Dimitriou Poliorcetiou Street. In September 2001, a small square dedicated to the renowned musician was inaugurated, and the bust was installed in 2002. The monument, made of marble, realistically depicts the great composer in his later years, mounted on a stone pedestal.

Every year, on the first Saturday of September, the "Tsitsanis Group" gathers in the square to play music, attracting many visitors who come to enjoy his melodies.

Vassilis Tsitsanis (1915-1984) is considered one of the greatest Greek folk composers, lyricists, and singers of the 20th century. Born in Trikala to parents from Epirus, he showed an early interest in music and learned to play the mandolin, violin, and bouzouki. His contributions to rebetiko and folk music are well-recognized, with his songs continuing to be cherished and enjoyed to this day.
