Oreskeia (Kosmini)
A difficult but very rewarding destination for nature lovers
The Vathres of Oreskeia, also known as "Kosmini", is located on Mount Beles, in the prefecture of Serres. These natural lakes, formed by the waters coming down from the mountain, are a hidden treasure for nature and adventure lovers.
The pedestals are small, natural lakes created by the waterfall and the waters flowing from higher points of the mountain. Their crystal-clear waters, surrounded by impressive rocks and dense vegetation, offer a magnificent landscape, ideal for swimming during the summer months. The pedestals are renowned for the purity of their waters, while the sense of isolation and tranquillity they offer is unique.
Access to the Oreskeia pedestals is not very easy, which makes them a destination for the most adventurous visitors. Hiking to the point is an experience in itself, as the trail crosses beautiful landscapes, forests and streams. The trail is relatively challenging, but the reward at the end is the spectacular sight of the pedestals and the opportunity for a refreshing dip in their icy waters.
The area around the pedestals is steeped in legend and lore, with locals telling stories of the nymphs and elves that inhabited the forests and waters. The name 'Kosmini' also carries historical references, with links to ancient traditions of the region.
Although the Oresteia pedestals are not well known to the general public, they are a favourite destination for nature, hiking and adventure lovers. The isolation and natural beauty of the landscape offer an unforgettable experience to those seeking a hidden gem off the beaten track.
