Nea Flogita
The resort with the Blue Flag, 45 kilometers from the airport
Nea Flogita is a coastal settlement located on the coastal road leading from Thessaloniki to the Halkidiki Peninsula. It is approximately 45 kilometers away from the airport and 6 kilometers before Nea Moudania. The village has a population of 1,595 inhabitants, but during the summer months, the population multiplies as it becomes a popular tourist destination, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
The long, wide beach with crystal-clear waters in front of the village stretches for over a kilometer and is awarded the Blue Flag every year. Around the beach, which is the main attraction for tourists in Nea Flogita, a complete tourist resort has developed, offering taverns, restaurants, bars, many hotels, and various shops. The area also boasts a vibrant nightlife but is also preferred for family vacations, as the pace is not as high as in similar destinations in Kassandra and Sithonia.
"Nea Flogita," as it is commonly known, was founded in 1923 by refugees who had lived in Cappadocia. The village is built amphitheatrically around its beach. In the areas behind the village, amidst fields and olive groves, another point of architectural interest is the former dependency of Mount Athos, known as the "Russian" area. It features buildings from the 19th century and housed a hospital of the American Red Cross in 1920.
