Monument for Jewish Students

A monument dedicated to the Jewish students of Aristotle University who were victims of the Holocaust

The Monument for the Jewish students of Aristotle University is an important work of remembrance that pays tribute to the Jewish students who were victims of the Holocaust. The piece consists of two main elements. The first is a metal surface, bearing marks from the heat of welding, which form stars, triangles, and other symbols used to categorize people in the concentration camps. These marks remain unchanged, serving as a memorial in our collective memory, reminding us of the horrors suffered by hundreds of souls.

The second element is a wooden box engraved with the names of 76 Jewish students who were violently taken to concentration camps and met their death during the occupation.

The monument was unveiled on March 7, 2019, next to another work dedicated to the Holocaust, which was revealed on May 1, 2014. Both works are creations of artist and professor Xenis Sachinis.

The monument is located in the Ceremony Hall of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, a place that integrates the memory and history of the Jewish students into Greek society.
