Marasleio Building

A Building from 1905 with a Rich Educational History

The Marasleio Building, constructed in 1905, boasts a rich history and architectural heritage. Originally housing the "Hellenic-French Commercial and Practical Lyceum of Stefanou Nouka," the institution aimed to educate the Christian community of Thessaloniki by promoting the French language and commercial education.

Following the contribution of Gregorios Maraslis, the building was renamed Marasleio in honor of his philanthropic efforts in education. In 1933, the building was converted into the Second Gymnasium for Girls, marking a progressive shift in women's education in Thessaloniki.

Since 1980, the Marasleio Building has been home to the 19th Gymnasium - Lyceum of Thessaloniki, continuing its tradition of education in the area. The building retains many of its architectural features, reflecting the influence of early 20th-century French architecture and its significance as an educational institution in the city's history.
