Bust of Ioannis Vellidis
Bust of Ioannis Vellidis
Dedicated to the contribution of Ioannis Vellidis to the local society and economy
In front of the "Ioannis Vellidis" Conference Centre, on Army Avenue, we find the bust of Ioannis Vellidis. It is an impressive sculpture, made of bronze, which highlights his figure with realistic rendering and soft detail.
The bust is set on a dark marble base, which adds depth and gravity to the work. Surrounding the bust, decorative stones create an environment that complements the stateliness of the figure. The inscription on the bust bears the name of Ioannis Vellidis, as well as the years of his presidency of the I.E.T.H., which underscores the importance of his presence in the development of the fair and trade in the region.
The bust is located at one of the most central points of the I.E.T.H. in Thessaloniki, giving visitors the opportunity to observe it and reflect on the contribution of Ioannis Vellidis to the local society and economy. The choice of this location for its placement is particularly symbolic, as the I.E.T. is one of the most important events that promoted Thessaloniki as a commercial and cultural centre.
The bust is the work of the sculptor Miltiadis Tsomidis, who has managed to portray with sensitivity and precision the personality and importance of Vellidis in the history of the city.
