Statue of Patriarch Joachim III

Dedicated to the Ecumenical Patriarch of the late 19th century.

The statue of Ecumenical Patriarch Joachim III is located in the courtyard of the Faculty of Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The unveiling of the statue took place in December 2014, as part of commemorative events held in his honor. The work was created by sculptor Aphrodite Liti and was sponsored by the Philanthropic Brotherhood of Men in Thessaloniki.

The sculptor has depicted Joachim III in sacred vestments, looking straight ahead, highlighting his dynamic personality. The statue stands on a pedestal made of black marble and is one of the prominent statues of the university, visible from Egnatia Street.

The choice of this specific location was not accidental. Joachim III showed great zeal and love for education, striving to support Greek letters, a fact that links the presence of the statue with the academic and intellectual life of the city.
