Rare Exhibits from the Hatzilia Collections

The Haemus Penisula Museum, located in the city of Serres, was inaugurated in 2003 and has become a focal point for the cultural heritage of the region. Established by Dina and Alekos Hatzilia, who began collecting rare exhibits in 1965, the museum aims to showcase Balkan traditions.

The museum features six sections where visitors can admire a variety of artifacts, ranging from figurines and tools dating back to the Neolithic era to traditional costumes, weapons, and household items. Of particular note is the collection of jewelry, decorative objects, belts, embroidery, carpets, paintings, and other artworks from Greece and Asia Minor, spanning two centuries of vibrant Balkan tradition.

The Haemus Penisula Museum has generated interest and enthusiasm among recognized artists and scholars, serving as a venue for the study and dissemination of local and Balkan cultural heritage. With its rich and diverse collections, the museum plays a significant role in enhancing the understanding of the region’s history and identity.
