Folklore Museum of Sitochori Serres

The tradition and everyday life of the previous generations

The Folklore Museum of Sitochori, which is housed in a hall granted by the local agricultural cooperative, opposite the church of Agios Georgios, is an important cultural centre for the region. This space, which used to house the village's school, had operated from the Turkish occupation until 1968 with the support of the Monastery of Sinai.

The establishment of the museum was an idea that took eight years to implement, with the aim of housing the local folklore and cultural heritage of Sitochori. The exhibition was curated by the Association of Sitochorites of Thessaloniki, which played a key role in realizing the dream of many residents to highlight the history of the village.

The museum exhibits objects kept and carried by the residents from grandfather to grandfather, thus offering a rare opportunity for visitors to get to know the tradition and daily life of previous generations. The operation of the museum reinforces the hope that future generations will keep alive the history and traditions of their land.
